- teacher functions as facilitator ...providing the space and arranging the classroom situation.
- passive, observing, only intervening when absolutely necessary.
- answers general questions to the topic and technology used.
- has to have knowledge about the basic technology used
- instructor has to set reachable goals for the students
Roles of the Student
- active role
- decides the amount of work they contribute
- have to ask questions and gain knowledge about the topic they're dealing with and the technology. --> improvement of technological skills and social skills (due to group work)
Difference to traditional roles
- teacher more involved, more active, giving instructions for the students. (question/answer principle)
- students are more involved in a classroom interaction, not as independent as in a Wiki project.
Do you think special training is needed to adapt to the new roles?
We guess it is, because the students are more working independently from the teacher and have to organize themselves in groups to actually work together without intervention by the teacher. --> improvement of social skills, technical skill and self assessment.
Positive/negative outcomes of the change in roles?
- negative might be that too much independent work from the teacher in groups can raise opinion that the teacher might not be needed.
- positive is that this kind of project is more real life based (possible future work situations for students) .It is blurring of the strict teacher/student line --> image of teacher as a co-worker/consultant
